What is Tested:  Dried blood spot is ideal for testing certain hormones, insulin levels, blood lipids, thyroid hormone levels, Vitamin D, and lead and magnesium levels.

Why It’s Done:  Blood spot cards are easily transported and stored and may be used to corroborate serum test findings.  Dried blood spot testing is the most accurate indicator of hormone levels after topical hormone supplementation and there is no need to stop replacement therapy before testing.   Reference ranges are adjusted to consider a number of factors including age, menstrual cycle, and hormone levels with and without treatment.

How It’s Done:  Dried blood spot testing requires no blood draw.  Users prick their finger with a lancet and place a series of blood drops on a card provided.
