What is Tested:  Saliva testing is used to measure a number of different hormone levels including cortisol levels, estrogen levels and testosterone levels.

Why It’s Done:  Steroid hormones found in blood are bound to carrier proteins.  Saliva provides the most accurate measurement of bioavailable hormones to tissues.  Saliva testing is the preferred method for testing hormone deficiencies or excesses within the body.  It is also used to assess the efficacy of hormone therapies.

How It’s Done:  Saliva collection involves spitting into a plastic tube provided in the saliva test kit.  Saliva testing often involves taking samples at specific intervals throughout the day.
